SC still without Schlotterbeck, but already back with Günter

After his first start for the German national team, Christian Günter has already reported back to SC Freiburg on Tuesday. Only some of the convalescents have returned to training.

Of Freiburg’s eight internationals, six are still in action on Tuesday evening, while two have already returned. SC captain Christian Günter, who was in the starting eleven for the first time in the DFB win against Liechtenstein and was on the bench for the game in Armenia, even reported back to the training ground on Tuesday. Philipp Lienhart still played with Austria against Moldova on Monday evening and won 4:1. Just like in the 4:2 win against Israel three days earlier, the centre-back was on the pitch for 90 minutes.

Schlotterbeck still plagued by muscular problems – Petersen not yet training

Freiburg’s preparation for the home match against Eintracht Frankfurt also started without Nico Schlotterbeck on Monday and Tuesday. He had to call off DFB coach Hansi Flick due to muscular problems in his left thigh and continues to train only individually. Whether he will be able to play again on Sunday against Frankfurt is still open, said a SC spokesman.

The match is also likely to come too soon for Nils Petersen, as the striker is still not in team training due to his knee problems. Roland Sallai (after knee injury in the game against Leipzig) and Kimberly Ezekwem (after muscle injury) will rejoin the training this week, at least in doses. Jonathan Schmid, who has been missing since the end of August due to a covid illness, recently announced on Sky that he wants to train with his team again in December.

After the two training days at the beginning of the week, Freiburg have Wednesday off, as the match against Eintracht is not until Sunday. Although the so-called Corona alert level will be in force in Baden-Württemberg from Wednesday, there will be little change for spectators at the Europa-Park Stadion compared to the two previous games there. Sport-Club already relied on the 2G option model in the home game against Fürth, now the state ordinance stipulates that only vaccinated and recovered people are allowed into the stadium.

A full capacity is still allowed as a result. However, the club does not want to sell all the tickets in certain areas – especially in the standing areas – and thus wants to reduce the capacity somewhat on its own initiative. The biggest change is that spectators will be required to wear masks throughout the stadium, including in the seating and standing areas. The mask may only be removed for eating and drinking, which is only allowed in the seats.
