Baumann scores again to set up Zwickau’s win

The FSV Zwickau extended their run to now eight Drittliga games without defeat by beating TSV Havelse in a make-up game. The Saxons drew an even match on their side after the break.

Zwickau coach Joe Enochs made two starting eleven changes after the 2-2 draw at Wehen Wiesbaden: Striker König had to be replaced by Gomez due to an infection with the Coronavirus Butzen also started instead of Hauptmann.

Havelse coach Rüdiger Ziehl made only one change compared to the 2:1 against Halleschen FC: Tasky replaced captain Fölster (not in the squad).

Both teams delivered a varied first half with chances on both sides. Meyer (14th) and Lakenmacher (14th, 18th) had the first clear opportunities for the visitors. The home side needed some time, then Gomez (19th), Göbel (25th) and Horn (34th) came close to the FSV lead. Both opponents had two more good opportunities before half-time: Düker and Froese first missed a double chance for the visitors (41st), then Könnecke (42nd, 45th) and Baumann (45th) on the opposite side missed the goal. The score was 0-0 going into the break.

Zwickau strikes twice ice-cold

Enochs reacted and brought on Starke, a fresh attacking force. The move worked: Shortly after the restart, the joker escaped his guard, intercepted a shot from the back in an offside-suspicious position and laid off for the free Baumann, who only had to push in and score his fourth goal in the last four games (49.). Eight minutes later, FSV added to their tally: Because Quindt was too hesitant when coming out of the box for a corner, Schikora could easily head into the goal for 2:0 (57.). Baumann (68.) and Schikora (70.) had further chances.

Havelse had to struggle with the two low blows. It was not until the 71st minute that the promoted team really came out on the offensive again, but Lakenmacher and Froese failed to beat Brinkies, who reacted well.

Because substitute Lokotsch headed just over the goal in the moderately exciting final phase and thus missed the last good chance (81st), it remained the 2-0 victory for the Saxons.

Zwickau, who climbed to 12th place with their eighth consecutive match without defeat, will play 1. FC Magdeburg on 20 November. Bottom-placed Havelse have to play SC Freiburg II in a parallel match.
