Havertz, Tah and ter Stegen not in training

On Tuesday afternoon, the German national team completed their first team training in Wolfsburg – without a quartet.

So Jonathan Tah (Leverkusen), who was subsequently nominated on Monday, and substitute goalkeeper Marc-André ter Stegen (Barcelona) were missing for reasons of stress management, Kai Havertz (Chelsea) had to miss out because he picked up a knock. And Kevin Volland, who had been invited at short notice on Tuesday, is not expected until Tuesday evening after travelling from Monaco.

By contrast, Wolfsburg’s Maximilian Arnold and Ridle Baku, whom national coach Hansi Flick had also re-nominated on Tuesday, were part of the 20-strong group that took part in the afternoon session in the shadow of Wolfsburg’s AOK Stadium. Their call-up was a reaction to Niklas Süle’s positive Corona test, as a result of which a total of five players had to leave.

Tah, on the other hand, had been post-nominated early, according to DFB director Oliver Bierhoff, because Freiburg’s Nico Schlotterbeck (muscular problems in his left thigh) Bundestrainer Hansi Flick will not be available for the last two World Cup qualifiers against Liechtenstein and in Armenia. Florian Wirtz (muscular problems in the hip flexor) will also not be able to play.
