Riemann: Eleventh missed penalty in Bundesliga history

Bochum keeper Manuel Riemann (33) wrote a piece of Bundesliga history with his missed penalty on Saturday

With the score at 1:0 in the 76th minute, VfL had a great chance to take the lead, but Riemann thundered the ball over the goal. In the end, however, the Bochum keeper could breathe a sigh of relief, because on the one hand he kept the score level – and on the other hand Milos Pantovic scored from his own half in the seventh minute of stoppage time to make it 2-0.

Riemann’s penalty miss was the eleventh by a goalkeeper in Bundesliga history – six of which were missed by penalty specialist Jörg Butt alone, the last one on 30 January 2010 in the FC Bayern goalkeeper’s jersey. Since the 1963/64 season, however, 35 penalties have been converted by Bundesliga goalkeepers. Butt is far and away the leader in this statistic with 26 penalties scored.
