Skov is back in the World Cup race

After the European Championship, the Hoffenheim player had to endure a dry spell – not only at the club. Now the left-footer is back at it again.

At the weekend, Robert Skov made his first start of the season for TSG – and what a start it was. Because national team player David Raum had to miss out (capsule irritation in the ankle), the left-footer was once again allowed to play on the left flank. In the 2-0 win against Hertha BSC, the Dane was the best player on the pitch with strong scenes, a goal against the post and two assists.

A performance that still resonated three days later. On Tuesday, Denmark’s national coach Kasper Hjulmand announced his line-up for the final internationals against the Faroe Islands and in Scotland, with Skov once again included, nominated along with his TSG teammate and pal Jacob Bruun Larsen. This means Skov faces an emotional return to the national team with the match in his hometown of Copenhagen on 12 November.

In at the European Championship – but without an appearance

The 25-year-old former top scorer in the Danish league (2018/19) had made the jump to the senior team earlier than Bruun Larsen, with whom he had also represented his country at the 2016 Olympics. But at the Euros, where Denmark surprisingly advanced to the semi-finals, Skov remained without an appearance. In Hoffenheim, too, the powerful Dane initially fell behind due to late preparation and was also not nominated for the national team. Instead, Bruun Larsen after his strong start to the season in the Bundesliga. Now the mates can play together again in the national jersey.

It will be exciting to see in which position Skov will be deployed. After his retraining in Hoffenheim, the trained winger was also used in international matches on the left or even at left back, but was unable to assert himself or assert himself there. Let’s see where Hjulmand sees him at the restart.
