French authorities ban Lazio fans from travelling to Marseille

The upcoming Europa League clash between Olympique Marseille and Lazio Roma will – like the first leg – take place without away fans. This is according to a statement from the French Ministry of the Interior.

For the first leg in Rome no visiting fans were present at the Stadio Olimpico to prevent possible riots. OM supporters are also considered very violent in France.

Both fan camps already clashed in October 2018 at a match in Marseille. On the eve of the match, there were riots involving around 200 people, after which four people suffered stab wounds. There were also further violent confrontations between the two fan scenes on the day of the match. After the first leg a fortnight ago, there were also accusations of racism against the Italian fans.

Both clubs are currently dueling for second place in Europa League Group E behind leaders Galatasaray Istanbul.
