The second round of the DFB Cup will take place on Tuesday and Wednesday. The next round will be decided on Sunday, when the draw for the round of 16 will be made.
The eight matches in the round of 16 will be drawn during the ARD sports show from 6.30 pm. Former national player and current DFB team manager Benedikt Höwedes will act as the draw director. The balls will be drawn by Peter Zimmermann, chairman of the SG Ahrtal, which lost four sports fields in the flood disaster in July 2021 and is representative of 15 clubs along the Ahr. Clubs in other regions and federal states were also affected by the flood disaster and their fate will be highlighted on Sunday.
The round of 16 matches to be played will take place on 18 and 19 January 2022. The exact dates should be known in the days following the draw. Only clubs from the 3rd and 4th leagues have fixed home rights, provided they qualify for the next round.
At the moment, two regional league clubs (Babelsberg, Münster) and three third league clubs (1860 München, Osnabrück, Mannheim) are still in the competition. The 2nd round will be played on Tuesday and Wednesday.
