Muscle injury: Kramer faces break

Borussia Mönchengladbach is worried about Christoph Kramer. The midfielder injured his thigh in training. Coach Adi Hütter is not sure whether Ramy Bensebaini will be fit for the weekend.

Tuesday’s training session was nearing its end when it happened: Christoph Kramer slumped to the ground and remained lying with his face contorted in pain. The grip on his right thigh and the signal that it was no longer possible for him to continue. An early end to the training session for the midfielder – and, according to initial impressions, probably also the end of the home match against VfB Stuttgart on Saturday.

Kramer could only leave the pitch on the medical department’s small trolley. Borussia reported “a muscle injury” after training – further examinations will probably follow and then show how badly Kramer has been hit. A break is imminent.

Meanwhile, the first international players returned to Borussia Park at the beginning of the new training week. Denis Zakaria left early from the Swiss national team after seeing his second yellow card in the international match against Northern Ireland (2:0) and is suspended for the match in Lithuania. Ramy Bensebaini left Algeria’s selection early, the left-back had travelled to the national team despite a foot injury but could not be used.

Bensebaini comeback open – Thuram still missing

In Gladbach he will continue his rehabilitation programme for the time being. Bensebaini is most likely not yet an option for the Stuttgart game. “We’ll have to wait and see whether Ramy will be able to take part in team training this week. I don’t know yet if he will be available for the game on Saturday,” said coach Adi Hütter.

Marcus Thuram will definitely be missing. The Frenchman is still training individually after tearing his inner ligament. Hütter: “He is working well in rehab and I hope that he can perhaps be partially integrated into team training next week. But we still need a bit of patience with him. “
