Maurizzio Sarri Admits Anger at Training Absentee Willian

As the new manager of a big club, one of the last things you want to have to deal with is a player going AWOL and not showing up for training. Over the past few years, this has become a recurring theme for wantaway players in their bid to push a move through.

Willian is a no-show at Chelsea training

Now Willian is the latest player to show his frustration and skipped training in a bid to convince Chelsea to let him go. Willian was granted extra holiday time following his appearances with Brazil at the World Cup but was due back on Friday. He failed to show up and has cited a passport issue to be responsible for the holdup.

Sarri doubts Willian’s excuse is genuine

Sarri is clearly not taking the excuse as a genuine reason, saying: “I am not happy about the situation but before answering I would like to talk to him.” When asked whether he found the situation to be strange, he replied that he did.

Willian has been subject to failed bids from Barcelona, who then bought his fellow Brazilian Malcom. Whether that means they have ended their interest in Willian or not, he still has Manchester United keen to buy him. The winger still has another two years left on his contract, so Sarri might force the player to stay in the hope that he will help Chelsea this season.

The Transfer deadline is close

With the new Premier League season set to start in just over a week, it looks like the transfer market is going to get frenzied in the coming days before the deadline. Chelsea target Higuain has moved to AC Milan on loan, whilst Matias Vecino is thought to be on his way to the Stamford Bridge club.

A lot will hinge on the futures of Hazard, Courtois and Willian and whether they are able to push through the transfers that they have been so keen for.
