Liverpool have reportedly launched an official €70 million offer for Roma’s in-demand goalkeeper Alisson Becker. Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio has reported that the Reds are ahead of Chelsea in the race to sign the Brazilian and there’s a distinct possibility that a permanent deal could be sealed by the end of the week.
Alisson to Liverpool
Ever since Loris Karius made those dreadful errors in the Champions League, Liverpool has been in pursuit of Roma’s Alisson, identifying him as the optimal choice between the posts. The Italian club thought the Champions League qualification would convince the goalkeeper to stay. He didn’t make any decisions before the World Cup, but now that the tournament is over, he seems to have made up his mind. Unfortunately, his desire doesn’t match Roma’s.
His preferred choice were rumoured to be Real Madrid, but Los Blancos seems to be going after Thibaut Courtois instead, which leaves Brazil’s No.1 with two options – Liverpool and Chelsea. Real Madrid opting for Courtois has given the green light to Liverpool to make a move. After what happened with Mohamed Salah, Roma is reluctant to sell, fearing a repetition of last year’s mistake. Yet, sporting director Monchi has admitted every player has his price. He might have been hoping for more than the €70 million The Reds are willing to offer at the moment. However, Alisson’s agent met with Roma on Tuesday to inform the Serie A side of the player’s desire to leave, so Monchi may be forced to compromise. That is unless Chelsea comes in and outbid their Premier League rival.

Liverpool goalkeeping coach John Achterberg recently liked a Twitter post by Di Marzio which suggests Alisson is close to joining the club, so at least we know talks are real and he’s excited about it.
Expect a resolution to the situation in the coming weeks, if not days.
