WORLD CUP CLASH PREVIEW: Egypt vs Uruguay

Egypt to play Uruguay for the second World Cup game

The Egyptian national team is playing against South American team Uruguay for the second game of this year’s World Cup in Group E. They are playing at Central Stadium Yekaterinburg in Russia on the 15th of July 2018.

Egypt

This will be the third time we’ve seen Egypt in the World Cup. They qualified with four fantastic wins in Group E of the African Nations, losing only one of six games they played, drawing once. The last two games they played to qualify were against Congo and Ghana. They won both games, 2-1 against Congo and 2-0 against Ghana, taking them to the top of Group E with 13 pts. They are currently ten places down from Uruguay in the FIFA rankings at 31st.

Mohamed Salah is undoubtedly the star of the Egyptian National football team. Salah has scored 31 goals in this season’s Premier League already. This makes him Egypt’s main weapon against Uruguay’s no.9 Luis Suarez.  Last year he was also Egypt’s top scorer during the 2017 African Nations.
Goal Keeper Essam El Hadary, now 45, could become the oldest player ever to compete at the World Cup.

When Egypt beat Ghana in November 2016, Basem Morsy left the stadium in response to being substituted. He is still being punished for leaving to this day and we’ve not seen him since.
A 26-year-old striker who plays for Etoile Sahel in Tunisia called Amr Marey has just received his first call-up and is now playing for the team.

Vital Moments In The Qualifiers

With just 60 seconds of added time, star player Mohamed Salah stepped up and scored against Congo on the 8th of October, this got Egypt through to the World Cup.

Uruguay

This will be the 13th time we’ve seen Uruguay in the World Cup. It’s going to be a battle between Luis Suarez and Mohamed Salah with both team’s top scorers shining with excellent form this past season.

Luis Suarez: Suarez is the star of Uruguay, after his biting incident with Giorgio Chiellini back in 2014, he was sent home from the World Cup early, now he is back with intentions of making the tournament memorable in positive ways.  “I want there to be the possibility of this being MY World Cup, after having left in the way I did in 2014,” he said in an interview with Sport 890 radio station.

Vital Moments In The Qualifiers

In October 2015, They kicked off with convincing wins away to Bolivia and at home to Colombia providing a morale booster for the team despite the absence of Luis Suarez and Edinson Cavani.
The same year in November, Uruguay were playing ruthless aside lacking Suarez, with quick and direct attacks they chalked up a comfortable 3-0 win at home to continental champions Chile.
In March 2017 they lost 2-1 to Peru which was their third defeat in a row. They had taken the lead on each defeat before having a sudden a lack of defence. This got even worse in June’s friendlies when they lost 3-1 to the Republic of Ireland and 3-0 to Italy. In September 2017, a few days after they drew with Argentina when Uruguay barely even crossed the halfway line, they bagged themselves a 2-1 win away to Paraguay effectively seals qualification.

Predicted Line-Up

Sports of the day’s verdict:

Even though Uruguay have been struggling with their form, we think they might pull this one out for a close game. Although if Salah is playing in full form this could be problematic for them.
