Jeanie Buss’s path to the top of the Los Angeles Lakers was marked by intrigue and controversy. Now it is the starting point of a new Netflix comedy that is celebrating its first successes.
The series “Running Point” has been available on the Netflix streaming service for a few days. The show is about the fictional sports official Isla Gordon, played by Kate Hudson, who unexpectedly becomes the managing director of the Los Angeles Waves.
The story deliberately contains various parallels to the story of Jeanie Buss, the current majority shareholder of the Los Angeles Lakers. The 63-year-old took over the traditional California franchise in 2013 after the death of her father and previous owner Jerry Buss. As a result, there were several disputes – some of which went to court – with her three brothers. They are also portrayed in the series.
Buss, who is the basis for the central character of the series, was actively involved in the production. Nevertheless, the creators made it clear that this is not a biography, but merely a “loose” film adaptation.
