Atletico Madrid has reacted with an official statement to the decision of the national sports council to grant Dani Olmo a temporary permit to play. Carlo Ancelotti preferred not to comment on this.
In the farce surrounding Dani Olmo, the competition in La Liga is now also loudly joining in. After the national sports council CSD granted Dani Olmo of FC Barcelona temporary permission to play on Wednesday, Atletico is now speaking out with harsh criticism.
“Atletico Madrid would like to express its deep concern about the situation in Spanish football following the decision taken by the CSD on Wednesday,” the club said in a statement. ‘We believe that this decision calls into question the current system and the rules of the game.’
“This state intervention sets a very dangerous precedent, as it opens the door to circumventing the rules and repeating the serious mistakes of the past,” criticizes the club, concluding its statement with the words: “Without clear and equal rules for all, fair competition is not possible.”
Ancelotti: “I’ll keep my thoughts to myself”
Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti was reserved in his comments after reaching the final of the Super Cup against FC Barcelona late Thursday evening in Jeddah. “Everyone has their own opinion,” he was quoted by Spanish media after the 3-0 win over RCD Mallorca: “I’ll keep what I think to myself.”
FC Barcelona had missed out on registering the 2024 European champions for the second half of the season, as the club, which is deeply in debt, was unable to meet the financial requirements of the Spanish league association LFP by the December 31 deadline.
As La Liga initially announced on New Year’s Day, Olmo was not to be given a playing license for this season, nor was substitute Pau Victor. The Blaugrana have now been able to counteract this ruling for the time being. It could take months before the final ruling is handed down.
