Aston Martin continues to rebuild: Cowell becomes team principal, new role for Krack

Mike Krack is no longer Aston Martin’s Formula One team principal – Andy Cowell takes over the role, Krack and other people get new roles

Aston Martin will have a new team principal for the 2025 Formula One season. Andy Cowell, who only joined the Silverstone-based team a few months ago, replaces Mike Krack, who had previously been team principal at Aston Martin since 2022 and thus for three years.

“I have spent the last three months analyzing and evaluating our performance and I am incredibly impressed by the dedication, commitment and hard work of this team,” Cowell said in a press release.

“These organizational changes are a natural progression of the multi-year plans we have in place, and I am incredibly excited about the future,” said Cowell, who had made a name for himself as Mercedes engine boss from 2013 onwards over many years.

Last summer, he initially replaced Martin Whitmarsh as group CEO at Aston Martin. Now he is becoming CEO of the Formula One team and team principal, which, according to Aston Martin, will lead to more “clarity in leadership” and “a flatter structure”.

“To achieve the best possible performance from the race car, the team’s aerodynamics, engineering and performance departments have developed into separate, dedicated teams at the race track and on the AMR Technology Campus, both of which report to Andy,” the team said.

The team in Silverstone will report to the new head of technology, Enrico Cardile, who has moved from Ferrari to Aston Martin. “Enrico will oversee the architecture, design and construction of new race cars,” the team said.

Cowell’s predecessor, Krack, meanwhile, remains with Aston Martin but takes on a new role as Chief Trackside Officer. Tom McCullough, who was previously Performance Director, also has a new role in this context.

“Tom McCullough will remain with the group in a leadership position, where he will play a crucial role in expanding the team to include additional racing categories,” the press release states.

Cowell himself explains that the racing team is “on the way to becoming a team that can compete for the championship.” There had been restructuring in the past, including the departure of technical director Dan Fallows at the end of 2024.
