Son of Michael Schumacher’s ex-teammate to race in WEC 2025

Eduardo Barrichello, son of Rubens Barrichello, will race in the LMGT3 category of the World Endurance Championship in 2025 in an Aston Martin

The World Endurance Championship (WEC) can look forward to a prominent newcomer for the 2025 season: Eduardo Barrichello will compete for Racing Spirit of Leman in the LMGT3 class alongside American Derek Deboer and Aston Martin works driver Valentin Hasse-Clot in an Aston Martin Vantage AMR GT3 Evo.

Eduardo “Dudu” Barrichello is 23 years old and has inherited the motorsport genes of his father, who achieved eleven victories in 326 Formula 1 starts. The Brazilian began his career in karting at the age of eleven.

He later competed in the American Formula 4 and the USF2000 series, the third Indy league behind the IndyCar series and Indy NXT (formerly Indy Lights). He celebrated some successes here in 2020. With three wins and an equal number of pole positions, he finished the season in second place in the championship, behind current IndyCar driver Christian Rasmussen.

Barrichello was drawn to Europe, but in the Formula Regional European Championship by Alpine (FRECA) he failed to get beyond a single podium finish and eleventh place in the championship in two years.

So he went back to his native Brazil and spent two years competing in the Stock Car Pro Series (formerly Stock Cars Brasil). There he notched up three wins and finished third in the championship behind Gabriel Casagrande, who celebrated his third title in four years, and ex-Formula One driver Felipe Massa.

He is now opening a completely new chapter with the WEC. His team, Racing Spirit of Leman (RSL) – not a spelling mistake for “Le Mans”, but the French name for Lake Geneva – is also new to the World Endurance Championship.

It takes the place of D’station Racing. The Japanese team is focusing entirely on the domestic Super GT again in 2025. Aston Martin is running two teams in the LMGT3 a unique but sensible system. The Heart of Racing (THOR), which is fielding the second Vantage, will also be entering two Valkyrie hypercars in 2025.

RSL has been through the hard school of the ACO in the Le Mans Cup, securing the LMP3 title there in 2022 and the GT3 class championship in 2023. Valentin Hasse-Clot was already part of the team back then. This was followed by the team’s promotion to the European Le Mans Series (ELMS). In 2024, Hasse-Clot, Deboer and Casper Stevenson took third place in the LMGT3 championship in the second ACO league.
