AS Roma are not getting into their stride – and not at all. After the narrow and half-gifted 1-0 win over Torino during the week, they now suffered an unnecessary 3-2 defeat at Hellas Verona. The air for coach Ivan Juric is thin.
There were some impressive moments on Sunday evening when Roma were guests at Hellas Verona and wanted to secure their second consecutive league win. For example, in the 28th minute, when Soulé, brought on for the recent match winner Dybala (bench), scored with a fine back-heel after a Zalewski cross to make it 1-1 at the time.
But before that, Zalewski had attempted a catastrophic side change, intercepted the ball from Hellas striker Tengstedt, who was free in front of AS keeper Svilar, and scored to take a surprising 1-0 lead for the underdog (13′).
It went on more or less like this: in the 34th minute, Verona’s burly Magnani rose in the six-yard box and nodded past everyone from close range to make it 2-1. After Dovbyk equalized in the second half to make it 2:2 and the Romans pushed hard for 3:2, they took the knock on the head: Harraoui dived in to score the celebrated winning goal, in which even the entire Verona bench stormed onto the pitch to celebrate.
Hummels again without a minute
Lange, very long faces meanwhile with the capital city team, who already caught the fourth defeat of the season on this 11th Serie A match day and now with meager 13 points as well as a clear distance to the top in the middle.
The air for coach Ivan Juric, who has been feeling like he’s been tumbling from one disappointment to the next since the surprising dismissal of Daniele de Rossi, has long been counted out by the media and once again did not have access to Hummels, has thus become even thinner.
