BLAST, Epic Games and Psyonix are delivering news for the upcoming season – and earlier than ever before.
The end of RLCS 2024 was just a month ago, and already the rights holder BLAST is looking ahead. Although the past season has not yet been fully concluded, BLAST is showing an open communication about the future. The community is taking this very favorably – especially considering that this time information was announced about Rocket League first and not Fortnite. “Not bad for a number 2 driver,” former F1 driver Mark Webber would probably say.
RLCS 2025 – two steps forward
Sometimes you have to take a step back to take two steps forward. The same actually applies to the RLCS. At the beginning of last season, the Danish rights holder BLAST had less than a month to start the season. At the beginning of this one, there were no time problems, so RLCS 2025 is likely to be the first “real” season under BLAST.
In principle, the structure of the RLCS remains unchanged from the previous year. There will be three RLCS offline events: the World Championship in September, “Major 1” at the end of March and “Major 2” at the end of June. Qualification for these will take place via online qualifiers. But there are also some innovations.
The big headline is the increase in prize money to five million US dollars, a 16 percent increase over last year. In addition, the World Championship is expanding from 16 to 20 teams, including Last Chance Qualifiers to bridge the long wait. The community’s feedback on X is positive.
Rocket League is looking for the best individual player
The RLCS will continue to be played in a 3v3 format in 2025. In addition, there will also be a search for the best individual player. RLCS 1v1 is becoming a reality, which will especially please the specialists in this game mode. Many RLCS pros have used the 1v1 mode as a stepping stone into the scene, but not everyone succeeds in becoming an outstanding team player. World champions like ‘Scrub Killa’, or 2024 world champion ‘dralii’, who have made a name for themselves in both modes, remain the exception.
The RLCS 1v1 final will take place at the World Championship in September 2025. The regional finals will be held at the two majors: while the two strongest players from Europe and South America will compete in Major 1, North America and the Middle East will face off in Major 2. The winners of these matches will then compete against each other for the best 1v1 player at the World Championship.
Birmingham Blues
As in the last season, the first Major of the year will take place in Europe, more precisely in Birmingham’s BP PULSE LIVE Arena. This makes it the first Major on English soil that is not in the capital London. From March 27 to 30, 2025, the world’s top class will come together, with spectators joining them on the last two days of the tournament.
Qualifying for the Major starts on January 3, leaving just two months for teams and players to find each other for a glorious season.
