Leeds United are unbeaten in six competitive games and, with their second win in a row on Tuesday evening, have temporarily taken the lead in the Championship table. But Daniel Farke’s worries are growing.
After a bumpy start to the season, Leeds United are getting into their stride. On Tuesday evening, the Whites won their fourth home game (out of six so far). In the 2-1 win against Watford, the favorites benefited from an early double strike.
Watford’s keeper Bachmann had a hand in both goals, though. The former Austrian international (14 full “A” caps) did not make a good impression in minute 4, when Firpo served left-winger Ramazani in the penalty area, whose tight shot Bachmann only got under control behind the line.
Three minutes later, Bachmann was caught out by a seemingly harmless cross from Gnonto on the right. The 30-year-old parried the ball forward, allowing former Union Berlin player Aaronson to race in and fire into the bottom right corner. It was the US international’s third goal of the season.
But then the smile quickly faded from Farke’s face. Because scorer Ramazani had to be substituted after only 14 minutes with a face contorted in pain due to an injury. This increases the injury concerns in the midfield: former Leipzig player Ampadu and former Bremen player Gruev are out for a long time with knee injuries, and right winger James has also had to take time out repeatedly this season.
Baah brings back the excitement
Leeds, for whom former Düsseldorf player Tanaka had seen the yellow card before the break, had to fear for the home win at the latest when play resumed. Watford came out of the dressing room with new courage – and closed the gap with Baah’s powerful shot into the near corner (47′).
The Whites ultimately held on to their lead and now temporarily share the lead with Sunderland. Like Leeds, they have 22 points and a goal difference of 19:8 – but have played a game less. The Black Cats are due to play Luton Town, who were relegated from the Premier League, on Wednesday evening.
