The hunted: “When you’re the best, they really want to beat you”

As world champion, Anders Vejrgang is even more in the spotlight than before in the new eSports season of FC 25. The Dane gives insights into his thoughts – and his everyday life as the hunted.

Until now, the DFL had refrained from using one of the league’s biggest stars for the media talks before new VBL seasons – but that changed on Monday. Anders Vejrgang answered questions from the journalists in attendance. The World Cup title this summer has further raised the profile of the e-sportsman from RBLZ Gaming, but has also taken some of the pressure off the former FIFA prodigy. “I’ve always said that I’m the best. Now I’ve finally been able to show it,” says Vejrgang.

His opponents have always been particularly motivated against the often impulsive Dane, who used to appear fragile at times. This has intensified: “Even when I play Weekend League, my opponents sweat extremely hard against me. Everyone wants to win against me.” If someone succeeds, it’s almost newsworthy – “When I lose, I get private messages. There’s laughter in my stream. I try to use that as motivation,“ says Vejrgang.

”I don’t want to become arrogant”

These reactions are ‘normal,’ as the RBLZ player himself says: ‘When you’re the best, they really want to beat you.’ He no longer lets the spitefulness of many viewers who want to see him fall get to him as much. “I try not to think about it. If I do, as I have done in the past, I won’t achieve much in the future,“ says Vejrgang. The 18-year-old wants to pay more attention to his own thought and behavior patterns.

”I don’t want to become arrogant just because I won the World Cup. Because I want to win it again. I’m happy that I was able to show last year that I’m the best. But I also want to prove it this year,” he says, setting the course for 2024/25. High on his list is not only the FC Pro World Championship, but also the VBL competitions. Last season, he was unable to win the Club Championship or become the German individual champion.
