ADAC GT Masters Spielberg 2024: Seppänen still on course for title after pole

Championship leader Elias Seppänen in the Landgraf Mercedes-AMG was the fastest in the second qualifying session of the ADAC GT Masters at Spielberg.

In the second qualifying session of the ADAC GT Masters at the Red Bull Ring, championship leader Elias Seppänen showed his best form in the Mercedes-AMG GT3 from Landgraf Motorsport. It was already the third pole position of the 2024 season for the 20-year-old, who shares his car with Tom Kalender.

“I’m very happy to have secured pole position again. We also took three points again, which is of course very important in the title race,” says Seppänen. The Ferrari 296 GT3 of the two Swiss drivers Alain Valente and Jean-Luc D’Auria (Emil Frey) was placed behind him. Maxime Oosten and Leon Köhler from FK Performance took third place. The BMW duo is second in the standings and will therefore be directly behind the current leaders on the grid.

The second qualifying session on Sunday morning at the traditional Austrian circuit in Styria started in dry conditions. At ten degrees Celsius, the track temperature was almost twice as high as in the first qualifying session on Saturday. The improvement in the asphalt conditions allowed the drivers to get the Pirelli tires into an optimal working window more quickly.

Alexander Schwarzer proved this in the Fach Porsche 911 GT3 R at the halfway point by significantly beating the best time from the first qualifying session by around three seconds. With seven minutes remaining, a thrilling battle for pole position ensued. In the end, it was Seppänen who lapped the 4.318-kilometer circuit in 1:28.764 minutes, achieving the best qualifying time.

For fans of the ADAC GT Masters who are unable to attend, TV partner Sport1 will broadcast all the action from the tenth race of the season live on German free TV from 3 pm. The race can also be viewed on the free ADAC Motorsport YouTube channel with German and English commentary.
