New opportunity for MotoGP 2025: Yamaha’s efforts excite Miguel Oliveira, who is keen to play his part at Pramac
It’s an open secret that Miguel Oliveira and Pramac-Yamaha are pretty much on the same page. After switching brands from Ducati to Yamaha, Pramac is facing a new beginning, for which the team will, according to the current status, rely on the experience of Miguel Oliveira and Jack Miller.
Oliveira will no longer play a role at Trackhouse-Aprilia from 2025. The team will continue with Raul Fernandez and announced at the Austrian Grand Prix in Spielberg that it will bring Ai Ogura from the Moto2 World Championship to MotoGP.
According to Oliveira, the separation from Trackhouse came about “naturally”. “They told me that they wanted to sign a young rider from Moto2. Then everything was clear to me,” explained the Portuguese rider, who has been riding for the US team since last season and had some problems showing his full potential after an injury-riddled season last year.
A new opportunity awaits Oliveira at Pramac. “It’s a very attractive project,” said the five-time MotoGP race winner. “The way Yamaha is approaching the future will soon pay off,” he is convinced.
So far, Yamaha has found it difficult to reap the rewards of its development work. At the MotoGP weekend in Austria, Yamaha came away completely empty-handed. However, Oliveira is convinced that the Japanese manufacturer will be able to compete at the front of the field again in the future.
“With Alex Rins and Fabio Quartararo, they have a very strong rider line-up in the factory team. A really good satellite team is the missing piece of the puzzle, I think. Then they can collect more data and information with four identical bikes. That way, the project will develop faster and it will be easier to achieve the desired results,” said the 29-year-old Portuguese rider optimistically.
