Yamaha excited about satellite team: “Will discover what we are missing now”

Yamaha Team Manager Massimo Meregalli emphasizes how important Pramac will be as a second factory team – crucial for information exchange and development

Not only the internal restructuring shows how seriously Yamaha takes MotoGP and is doing everything it can to become competitive again. The new partnership with Pramac will be very different from previous satellite teams.

“In the past, we provided bikes and “Ciao”, Tech3 always got the bike from the previous year. There was no further development.

Petronas SRT and RNF at least had a current model. But in future, Pramac will be regarded as the second works team. “We are trying to maximize this model as much as possible. There will be a constant exchange of information.”

“The key people will all come from Yamaha. We will also discover more next year what we are missing this year,” said Meregalli, going into detail: “We have to do everything ourselves, including comparing the different tires.”

“Sometimes it’s quite complicated for us. With them, it will be a completely different way of working. Pramac will really be a second factory team.” This means that Yamaha will use four motorcycles of the same specification in the future, just like KTM, Aprilia and Honda

Ducati will probably only have three current motorcycles in the field next year. The third GP25 will probably go to Fabio Di Giannantonio in the VR46 team. The specific plans have not yet been officially confirmed.

It is also important for Yamaha to work closely with a satellite team in view of the new MotoGP regulations from 2027. “We can carry over most of the improvements from 2025 to 2026 and 2027,” believes Meregalli.

Overall, he welcomes the new rules with a reduction in displacement, reduced aerodynamics and the ban on ride height systems: “We were used to transferring knowledge from MotoGP to series production.”

“But I don’t see a production bike that has a system like this to start faster from the red light. I like the idea of narrowing down the rules in general. I’m sure that in a few years’ time, even with the smaller engine, we will achieve the same performance as we do now. “
