Will Frankfurt’s talented defender Collins end up in Nuremberg?

1. FC Nürnberg continue to search for reinforcements and have now apparently found what they are looking for in Frankfurt. Nnamdi Collins is to be loaned out

Nnamdi Collins is 1.91 m tall and is considered a great defensive talent. He was signed by Eintracht Frankfurt until 2028 and also made his first Bundesliga appearances in the 1:1 draw against Werder Bremen and the 0:3 draw in Stuttgart in 2023/24.

For the 20-year-old Collins, who had arrived in the Main metropolis from Dortmund a year earlier, it is also about gaining match practice – and it is uncertain whether he can get this in sufficient form at Eintracht. He would have a much better chance of doing so in the 2nd division, where his indirect future could also lie.

According to a Bild report, 1. FC Nürnberg are interested in a loan deal, talks about a transfer are already underway, but no agreement has yet been reached. The fact that Eintracht are not averse to Collins per se was already made clear when sporting director Timmo Hardung pointed out that they want to “promote his development in the best possible way in the short and medium term and support him in developing his footballing potential”.

On Saturday, Collins played in the 12-0 friendly win over TSV 1873 Heusenstamm in the Kreisoberliga and even got on the scoresheet, scoring the 5-0 goal shortly after half-time (47′). It is also not unlikely that the 20-year-old will travel with Eintracht to the training camp in Louisville in the USA on Monday

Promotion at BVB, alternative at the club?

The central defender trained at Fortuna Düsseldorf and transferred to Borussia Dortmund’s academy in 2016, where he became German A-Junior champion with the U19s in 2022. After taking his first steps in the professional game in BVB’s second team in League Three (8 games), he moved on to Eintracht, where he also played mainly in the second team. He made 16 appearances in the Regionalliga Südwest last season.

Collins could now play at a higher level in Nuremberg – and he could also be the other alternative at the club that coach Miroslav Klose still wants, despite the recent transfers of Robin Knoche and Ondrej Karafiat. His versatility would also be a bargaining chip, as the Germany U-20 international can play on the right or left side of the center and has also helped out at right back
