Change within the Euroleague: Bonga leaves Bayern

FCC Bayern Basketball will have to make do without Isaac Bonga from the coming season. The world champion is moving to other European countries

The Munich club announced Bonga’s departure on Wednesday morning. The 24-year-old, who is currently preparing for the Olympic tournament with the national team, will join another Euroleague club abroad.

“I would like to thank everyone in the Bayern organization, I felt very comfortable and had a lot of fun,” the international and world champion was quoted as saying in a statement from the reigning double winners. “I now have a new challenge, but we will certainly stay in touch: Keep in touch!”

Bonga played for FCBB for two years, winning the cup twice and the championship once. In the past season, he played in all 44 championship, play-off and cup games. His versatility in particular came to the fore, with the Rhineland native playing as a guard, but also contributing his qualities as a forward and rebounder.

Pesic: “He’s an outstanding guy “

Off the court, Bonga, known as “Izzy”, has become a crowd favorite and has also taken on an important role within the team, as Managing Director Marko Pesic emphasized: “He has now decided to take on a new challenge, which we naturally accept and respect and wish him all the best. But Izzy should know that he will always be part of our basketball family in Munich, he’s an outstanding guy.”

Bonga is now embarking on the second chapter of his career abroad. In 2018, he left the Fraport Skyliners Frankfurt and joined the L.A. Lakers, who selected him with the 39th pick in the second round of the draft. After 143 games for the Lakers, Washington and Toronto, FCBB brought him back to Germany in 2022.

It is not yet clear where Bonga will move to
