Expensive Tuesday: Wolves snatch Larsen away from Wolfsburg Strand

Wolverhampton Wanderers dug deep into their pockets on Tuesday: Jörgen Strand Larsen and Pedro Lima are summer signings number three and four at the Premier League club

On Tuesday, Wolverhampton Wanderers were able to close two important positions in the squad, but it will probably cost almost 40 million euros. In Jörgen Strand Larsen, Wolves sporting director Matt Hobbs is getting the hoped-for “new number 9”. The 14-time Norwegian international (three goals) will initially join on a one-year loan from Celta Vigo.

However, the deal will automatically convert into a purchase, including a contract until 2029, if certain parameters are met. The total package for the center forward is around 30 million euros – three million euros loan fee, 27 million euros purchase price. One that VfL Wolfsburg had also been courting. But the Lower Saxons came away empty-handed.

Strand Larsen moved from Groningen to the north of Spain in September 2022 for just under €13 million, where he played 73 competitive matches (18 goals, nine assists). Now comes the big step into the Premier League for the angular attacker, who is 1.93 meters tall.

Double reinforcement for right back

On Tuesday evening, the expected arrival of Pedro Lima became official. The right-back, who turned 18 on Monday, landed on the island on Sunday to join Wolves. He will earn his former club, Brazilian second division side Sport Recife, the aforementioned transfer fee of ten million euros. The South Americans would receive a 12.5 percent share of a resale. 60 percent of the transfer fee is payable by December 2024, with the remaining 40 percent payable by December 2025.

Pedro Lima’s new team-mate, ex-Hertha player Matheus Cunha was also born in Cabedelo, could act as an intermediary. On Tuesday, Pedro Lima signed a five-year contract until June 30, 2029, which includes an option for a further season.

Before Strand Larsen and Pedro Lima, Wolverhampton had already strengthened their squad with Portuguese right-back Rodrigo Gomes (who joined from Braga for €15 million) and midfielder Tommy Doyle (signed permanently from Man City for €5 million).
