Fermin gives Xavi a farewell win

In the last game of the La Liga season, Barcelona, who were already confirmed as runners-up, played at Sevilla FC. It was Xavi’s last appearance on the Catalan touchline

Before the final game of the season in Sevilla, it was announced that Xavi would not remain coach of FC Barcelona after all. The final game of the La Liga season thus became a farewell match for the Barca icon. His team were keen to secure another treble and took the lead through Lewandowski after 15 minutes – Joao Cancelo had crossed precisely and the Pole took the first chance of the game

Sevilla, who have had a disappointing season, improved after the goal. Ter Stegen managed to deflect a Lukebakio shot around the left post, but was powerless against En-Nesyri in the near corner shortly afterwards – 1:1 (31′). An open exchange of blows then developed on both sides. Also because both defensive lines already had their heads in the summer break

Aluminum goals on both sides

The crossbar (Pedri, 38), the post (Joao Cancelo, 44) and Nyland prevented Barca from retaking the lead. At the other end, Lukebakio had further great chances, but also failed to score against the aluminum and shot just wide right (45, 45.+2). The teams went into the break at 1:1.

After the restart, things were initially much quieter before Fermin fired the ball into the left corner from 18 meters after around an hour. Barca then tried to extend their lead, but joker Joao Felix failed to beat Nyland and Koundé stumbled the ball past the empty goal from four meters (65th, 75th).

In the end, it was still enough for victory as Sevilla’s tentative attempts in the closing stages were not crowned with success. Xavi celebrated a successful finish thanks to Fermin.
