Mbappé announces his departure from Paris in the summer

It was almost certain that Kylian Mbappé (25) would leave PSG in the summer. Now the striker has spoken out himself and announced his departure

It had already been leaked in mid-February that Kylian Mbappé would be leaving Paris in the summer. Several media outlets had reported this. The striker himself has now provided the final clarity, announcing his departure via video on his social media channels on Friday. “I’ve always said I’ll speak to you when the time comes,” the Frenchman opened, adding: “I wanted to tell you that this is my last year in Paris. I will not be renewing my contract. The adventure will come to an end in a few weeks, I’ll play my last game at the Parc des Princes on Sunday.”

On Sunday (9pm), the already crowned champions Paris will face Toulouse. They then have away games in Nice and Metz before the cup final against Olympique Lyon in Lille on May 25. “I have always tried to give my best. Thanks to everyone at the club and the fans. I hope we end this year with a trophy,” said Mbappé.

The speedy attacker moved within France from Monaco to Paris in 2017. In total, Mbappé has won the French championship seven times (six times with PSG, once with Monaco) and the cup three times. The Champions League title that the rich club so longs for never came. “It’s very emotional, for many years I had the chance to be part of the biggest club in France, one of the biggest clubs in the world. I’ve grown as a player and also as a person,” said Mbappé.

“I need a new challenge

In recent years, there has been constant speculation as to what the 25-year-old would do. In the summer, it will certainly be a new club. Mbappé did not reveal his destination, but there is a lot to be said for Real Madrid. “It’s tough, I never thought it would be too difficult to announce,” the striker struggled with his words, revealing: “But I think I need a new challenge after seven years. But PSG is a club that I will always have fond memories of.”

Mbappé now wants to say goodbye with the cup win before moving on to something new
