Golden Shoe: Kane consolidates 1st place – defending champion Haaland jumps onto the podium

Harry Kane is unlikely to let the Golden Shoe get away from him, even though defending champion Erling Haaland made up a lot of ground at the weekend and has now moved up to third place in the ESM rankings.

Harry Kane followed up his brace in the 2:1 win against Frankfurt with an equalizer from the penalty spot in the 1-3 defeat in Stuttgart. With his 36th goal of the season, the FC Bayern striker has taken his tally to 72 points and is hurtling inexorably towards triumph in the European Sports Media (ESM) Goalgetter Ranking.

Especially as his immediate rivals were unable to score. Kylian Mbappé had no opportunity to do so because Paris St. Germain took a short break from the league between the two Dortmund matches in the Champions League semi-final, leaving the star striker on 26 goals. However, he was not displaced from second place, as Serhou Guirassy came away empty-handed in VfB’s win over Bayern, still has 25 goals (50 points) and remains in third place

However, he now has to share it with Erling Haaland, as the Norwegian delivered a four-goal gala in Manchester City’s 5-1 win over Wolverhampton Wanderers. The defending Golden Shoe champions catapulted three places up the table, but will no longer be able to threaten Kane.

Openda loses a place

Haaland’s four-goal haul and his leap onto the podium has seen Lois Openda lose a place in the European goalscoring charts. Benjamin Sesko had given RB the lead in the decimated Leipzig side’s 1-1 draw at TSG Hoffenheim. Lautaro Martinez dropped out of the top five after champions Inter Milan surprisingly suffered their second defeat of the season with a 1-0 loss at Sassuolo. The Argentine remains one place and one goal behind Openda with 23 goals

Bellingham and Salah in step

Jude Bellingham and Mohamed Salah made a bigger leap in the tableau, climbing from 18th to 14th place in a tie. Bellingham’s 2-0 goal against Cadiz was instrumental in Real Madrid not only winning their dress rehearsal for the second leg of their Champions League tie against FC Bayern, but also sealing their 36th league title. Salah’s 1-0 goal set Liverpool FC on their way to a 4-2 win over Tottenham
