World number one Iga Swiatek has lived up to her role as favorite and reached the final of the tennis tournament in Indian Wells
In the semi-finals, the 22-year-old Polish player defeated Marta Kostjuk 6:2 and 6:1, putting an end to the 21-year-old Ukrainian’s winning streak. Swiatek now has the chance to win the Masters for the second time since 2022 and draw level with Steffi Graf, among others.
The opponent in the duel for victory at the prestigious tournament in California is Maria Sakkari, just like two years ago. The world number nine from Greece beat Coco Gauff from the USA 6:4, 6:7 (5:7) and 6:2 after 2:41 hours in a hard-fought semi-final.
