Successful coach Harrelson leaves Vechta at the end of the season

Bundesliga basketball club Rasta Vechta has to look for a new coach – an exit clause allows Ty Harrelson to leave at the end of the season

Promoted coach Ty Harrelson is exercising his opt-out clause and leaving Bundesliga basketball club Rasta Vechta at the end of the season. The club, which surprised cup winners Bayern Munich last Sunday (90:88 n.V.), made the announcement on Wednesday. The US-American wants to “take on a new challenge.”

Return to the BBL and currently in fifth place

Harrelson had led the club from Lower Saxony back into the BBL last year, automatically extending his contract by two years until 2025. However, the contract included the option of early separation – and the Texas-born Harrelson, who has been in Vechta since 2022, exercised it.

“We would have loved to continue working with Ty. We also submitted a further improved offer to once again express our appreciation for him and his work. But success also arouses the desire of other clubs,” said Rasta sports director Gerrit Kersten-Thiele. Vechta is currently fifth in the table (15 wins, eight defeats)
