VBLCC: Who will be the top performer of the second half of the season

The regular season of the VBLCC is over, but the DFL is taking another look in the rear-view mirror. They are looking for the top performer of the second half of the season

The die has been cast in the Virtual Bundesliga Club Championship (VBLCC) since last week. FSV Mainz 05 are the division champions in the south-east, SC Paderborn in the north-west. However, a more or less unofficial title is still open.

As usual, the German Football League (DFL) goes in search of the top performer after the first or second half of the season. Umut Gültekin, Berkay Demirci, Max Julius Gröne and Lukas Wolff have been nominated. Once again, the fans have the final say, as they can vote for their favorite in a poll on X.

Numbers speak for the former world champion

According to the numbers, almost everything speaks in favor of Leipzig’s Umut Gültekin. Although he was able to make up for his botched start to the season with RB Leipzig, he narrowly missed out on the division championship. The 2023 World Cup winner leads the way in the categories of most efficient player, goals conceded per individual game (1.3) and points per individual game (2.8).

Gültekin is also well up there in terms of goals per game. With an average of 3.9 goals per game, he is in second place, while Leverkusen’s Mario Lovrinovic leads the rankings with four goals per game. However: ‘_Bulji’ only played three individual duels

Changes bear fruit – strong overall performance by Mainz

In terms of the most goals scored overall, Rostock’s Lukas Wolff (111) leads the way. Bremen’s Demirci shares second place with Furkan Kayacik. Both Demirci and Wolff took on a new challenge at the start of the season. Wolff moved from IQONIC to Hansa Rostock, where he took over from Levy Finn Rieck and Henning Wilmbusse respectively. The changeover in Rostock was successful – the Kogge played a good season. Demirci also had a successful season and continued his strong performances for Werder at St. Pauli. Like Leipzig, the Hanseatic side missed out on the division championship in the north-west by just a few points.

FSV Mainz 05 had a surprisingly successful season. The “Nullfünfer” climbed to the top of the table and managed to stay there until the end of the regular season. Gröne was particularly reliable in the individual games. With 2.2 points per game, he is right at the top of the rankings and shares second place with Paderborn’s Jonas Wirth. But the Nullfünfer were also strong as a duo – with an average of 2.1 points, they were the second-best team along with RB Leipzig, SC Paderborn and SC Freiburg.
