As Monaco and PSG drew 0-0 in the top-of-the-table clash at the start of matchday 24 in Ligue 1. Both teams had plenty of chances to score
Monaco coach Adi Hütter made two changes to his starting XI after the 3-2 win at RC Lens. Kehrer and Akliouche started in place of Salisu and Zakaria.
At the other end, PSG coach Luis Enrique made five changes to his starting eleven from the flattering 1-1 draw against Stade Rennes. Danilo Pereira, Fabian, Lee, Dembelé and Barcola made way for Mukiele, Ugarte, Carlos Soler, Asensio and Goncalo Ramos.
Donnarumma saves PSG from falling behind
Monaco made the better start to the game, with Donnarumma having to make his first save against Balogun in the fifth minute. PSG had the advantage in terms of possession, but the home side had the better chances. However, Monaco repeatedly found a way past the strong Donnarumma, as Minamino (16) and Akliouche (29) did.
The capital side struggled to create any dangerous goals, with the best opportunity coming from Asensio (21), who had to be taken off a few minutes later with muscular problems. Mbappé, who was substituted at the break, also did little going forward and was well saved by Singo and others (41′). Monaco launched a final offensive in the final minutes of the first half, but Ben Yedder (42) and Akliouche (45+3) – who again failed to beat Donnarumma – repeatedly failed to take the lead.
PSG also let the lead slip
The Monegasques also had the first chance of the second half: Ben Yedder’s powerful volley just clattered against the woodwork (58′). Although the flag went up in this scene, it would have been a matter for the VAR if a goal had been scored. PSG became stronger as a result, partly because Monaco’s strength was waning.
Lucas Beraldo (60′), Mukiele (62′), Barcola (67′) and Vitinha (75′) all missed promising chances. PSG laid siege to their opponents’ penalty area in the final minutes, but no more chances were created and the game ultimately remained goalless.
Monaco continue their campaign next weekend at Racing Strasbourg (Sunday, 3pm), while PSG visit Real Sociedad San Sebastian in the Champions League on Tuesday.
