Bayern keep their play-off hopes alive – worry about world champion Bonga

FC Bayern Munich continues to show strong form in the Euroleague and can dream of the knockout round more than ever

FC Bayern Munich has further improved its chances of making the play-offs in the Euroleague. The team of Head Coach Pablo Laso closed the gap to 10th place to one win with a 74:66 (32:27) victory over Red Star Belgrade on Friday evening. After 27 matchdays, Bayern are twelfth in the table with a 12-15 record, with the top ten clubs progressing to the knockout rounds.

The visitors from Serbia got off to a much better start and led 19:10 after six minutes. Munich really got into the game with 13 points in a row. World champion Andreas Obst created a lot of danger before the break with three successful three-pointers and played a big part in the narrow half-time lead with nine points.

The Bundesliga club defended its lead in the third quarter with the unerring Devin Booker and was also able to rely on another world champion: Isaac Bonga increased the lead to 62:54 with two threes with just under six minutes remaining, although the former NBA pro then injured himself and left the court limping. The loss of Bonga did not change the third win from the last four games. Booker impressed the Laso team with 22 points

Best scorers Munich: Booker (22 points), Ibaka (12), Obst (9)
