Bayer 04 Leverkusen are the only team in the Europa League to have swept through the group stage with six wins, meaning they have had their ticket to the round of 16 in the bag since the end of last year. On Thursday evening, SC Freiburg also secured one of the last remaining round of 16 tickets in the knockout play-offs thanks to a dramatic 3:2 win against Lens. The pairings for the next round will be drawn just one day later.

Of the former 32 teams, 16 are still in the round of 16. The eight group winners are seeded in the draw pots. The winners of the knockout round play-offs (group runners-up against “relegated” teams from the Champions League) are drawn from these pots. No clubs from the same association can meet in the Europa League round of 16.

When is the draw for the round of 16 of the Europa League
The draw will take place the day after the second legs of the knockout round play-offs. On Friday, February 23, 2024, the balls will be drawn at 12 noon in Nyon (Switzerland).
Who will broadcast the round of 16 draw?
The draw can be followed via livestream on the official UEFA website (uefa.com). Sky also offers a livestream. The pay-TV channel will also broadcast the draw on analog television on Sky Sport News.
When will the Europa League final eight take place?
The first leg of the Europa League round of 16 will take place on March 7, 2024. One week later, on March 14, the second leg will decide who secures a place in the quarter-finals.
What happens after the draw
The goal for all teams is the final in Dublin on May 22, 2024. After the round of 16, the teams have to survive two more rounds. The quarter-finals will take place on April 11 and 18, while the semi-finals will be held on May 2 and 9. The pairings for these two rounds will be drawn on March 15.
