Tatjana Maria has been knocked out of the WTA tournament in Dubai in the second round. The 36-year-old Swabian lost 3:6, 3:6 to Ukraine’s Yelina Svitolina at the WTA 1000 event
Maria was the only German player in Dubai to beat Frenchwoman Varvara Gracheva in the opening round.
Surprisingly, Australian Open winner Aryna Sabalenka from Belarus also failed. The world number two lost her first appearance since winning the Grand Slam title in Melbourne 7:6 (7:5), 3:6, 0:6 against Donna Vekic from Croatia.
