Final round of 16: After Jule Niemeier’s exit, the WTA tournament in Linz is over for the German players
Tennis player Jule Niemeier from Dortmund has been eliminated in the round of 16 at the indoor tournament in Linz. One day after her first win of the season in the main draw of a WTA event, the 24-year-old lost 3:6, 0:6 to Russia’s Ekaterina Alexandrova, meaning that all the German players were eliminated from the tournament in Austria, which has prize money of 922,573 dollars.
Former world number one Angelique Kerber (Kiel) had already lost in the first round.
Qualifier Niemeier made it through at least one round against Anna Blinkova (Russia), but the former Wimbledon quarter-finalist is still waiting for a lasting break from her months-long form crisis. At the start of the season, she was eliminated in qualifying in Auckland/New Zealand and at the Australian Open
