Dimarco’s dream assist paves the way: Inter in the Supercoppa final

The second semi-final of the Italian Supercoppa got underway on Friday evening. Inter gave Lazio no chance and advanced to the final with a well-deserved 3:0 victory

Nerazzurri coach Simone Inzaghi saw his team put in a strong performance on Saturday with a 5-1 victory in Monza. The Serie A leaders arrived with plenty of tailwind after 14 league games without defeat. Lazio are also in a good mood, however, as they celebrated their fifth consecutive competitive win with a 1-0 victory over US Lecce.

Inter reward themselves through Thuram

Inter left no doubt right from the start as to who was the favorite in this match. The Italian leaders had two good chances right at the start through Thuram (4th, 7th). The Nerazzurri kept at it – and were rewarded: after a cross from the left, Dimarco sensationally crossed the ball with his heel to Thuram, who only had to keep his foot out (17′).

With the lead behind them, Inter took it a little easier and Lazio had a little more of the play. But the Laziali were not really in the game and found it extremely difficult offensively. In the first 45 minutes, the Romans did not have a goal chance worth mentioning. Inter continued to be more dangerous, with Lautaro’s long-range shot deflected forward by Lazio keeper Provedel and then cleared in front of Thuram (34′). The favorites wanted to make it 2-0 before the break – and came close, but Barella only hit the crossbar (36′). From Lazio’s point of view, they went into the break with a fortunate 0:1.

After VAR intervention: Calhanoglu scores from the spot

Everything Lazio had planned at half-time was soon history again. After Lautaro went down in the penalty area against Pedro and the whistle failed to go, the VAR intervened. Referee Matteo Marchetti was sent to the monitor and saw a clear contact by Pedro – penalty. Calhanoglu converted safely into the left corner (50′). Inter now wanted to make things even clearer, Barella only hit the crossbar (52′) and Lautaro put the ball just over to the left (59′).

The Nerazzurri then slowed down the tempo again, but did not pose any danger. Lazio remained completely harmless and there were no signs of a comeback at any time. Shortly before the end, substitute Frattesi finally made it 3:0 with his goal (87′).

With this clear and well-deserved 3-0 win, Inter advance to the final and will face Napoli on Monday.
