Thigh strain: Salah misses Egypt for now

Egypt’s hopes have not been answered. Captain and figurehead Mohamed Salah (31) will miss his country’s Africa Cup campaign for the time being

Bad news for Egypt: As expected, his left thigh is damaged, but Mohamed Salah is not fit enough for the upcoming games. The 31-year-old top player will not be available to his national team for the time being. If things go badly, the Africa Cup could even be over for the Liverpool FC attacker

National coach Rui Vitoria hoped in vain

Salah, according to the Egyptian federation’s Instagram page, has suffered a “thigh strain in the rear muscle area”, according to an ultrasound and MRI on Friday. He will therefore miss at least “the next two games for the national team”. The injury that led to the injured captain being substituted in stoppage time of the first half against Ghana (final score 2:2) was therefore worse than initially thought. National coach Rui Vitoria had assumed that it was “not a major problem”.

Even if Egypt were to advance to the round of 16, Salah would not be involved, according to the federation

The team led by Frankfurt’s Omar Marmoush would first have to beat surprise leaders Cape Verde in their final group game on Monday at 9pm, with only two draws in Group B so far. Ghana and Mozambique (one point each) are also still in with a chance of progressing at the tournament in Côte d’Ivoire.

Klopp and LFC not redeemed

Liverpool coach Jürgen Klopp, who had already spoken to his player, is still worried despite the initial diagnosis. Salah has been involved in 22 of LFC’s 43 goals in the current Premier League season (14 goals, eight assists)
