Overtime thriller: promoted team Vechta upsets Ulm

On Saturday, second-placed Ulm was challenged at home against the strong newly promoted Rasta Vechta – and lost after a thrilling game in overtime

Champion ratiopharm Ulm has suffered a setback in the BBL. The defending champions lost 102:106 (92:92, 42:46) after overtime in a thriller against the strong newly promoted Rasta Vechta and suffered another setback after four successive victories.

Ulm’s Georginho de Paula scored the supposed game-winner shortly before the end. However, the visitors had one more attack – and Joschka Ferner hit a three-pointer on the buzzer to send the game into overtime. The newly promoted club had the upper hand there and won the five extra minutes by 14:10.

After its fourth defeat on matchday 16, Ulm dropped back to third place behind leaders Niners Chemnitz (14:2) and cup winners Bayern Munich (10:3), at least for the time being. The club from Saxony had opened the scoring on Friday with an 85:77 win at Champions League winners Telekom Baskets Bonn. Vechta (11:5) is fifth
