LoL 2024: MSI winner gets guaranteed Worlds starting spot

Riot Games has announced some changes for the 2024 eSports season in League of Legends (LoL). Among other things, the Worlds are coming to Berlin – and the MSI winner is guaranteed to be there

The developer wants to present the new major project to the entire LoL world for the first time at the 2024 World Championship: The LEC studio in Berlin-Adlershof will be transformed into the Riot Games Arena through some remodeling measures. And this is where the preliminary round and the Swiss phase will be played at the upcoming Worlds. While the final in London’s O2 Arena had already been confirmed, the venue for the quarter-finals and semi-finals has now also been finalized: the Adidas Arena in Paris.

The winner of the previous Mid-Season Invitational (MSI) will definitely take part in the 2024 World Cup. This guaranteed starting place will not be deducted from the respective regional contingent. There are also changes in this regard: LEC (Europe), LCS (North America), LCK (Korea) and LPL (China) will each receive three tickets. In 2023, Korea and China were still guaranteed four places each. PCS (Pacific) and VCS (Vietnam) will send two teams into the race, LLA (Latin America) and CBLOL (Brazil) one each.

“Stronger link between MSI and World Cup “

Not only does the MSI winner get another Worlds ticket for their region, but the second-best region also receives an additional ticket. Riot Games wants to “continue to raise the stakes for the MSI and build a stronger connection between the MSI and Worlds”. The Mid-Season Invitational will take place from May 1-19 in Chengdu, China. The World Champion will be determined this year from September 25 to November 2. The publisher did not comment on the reports about LoL at the Esports World Cup.
