“Wat e Theater – wat e Jeckespill”: That’s the motto of Cologne’s 2024 carnival season, and 1. FC Köln presented its new carnival jersey on Monday in keeping with it.
The 1st FC Cologne has shown on Monday, as its carnival jersey 2023/24 looks. Visually, the jersey is based on the prince’s regalia of Cologne’s triumvirate and shines with a golden Hennes border. This year’s session motto “Wat e Theater – wat e Jeckespill” and the corresponding logo can be found in the neck area.
In addition to the embroidered FC logo and the rubberized “hummel” logo, a city crest badge is sewn onto the chest. The right sleeve also features a jester’s cap, Cologne Cathedral, and the crown from the city crest, all embroidered in gold.
What does the motto mean?
“It is the Cologne joie de vivre that is in all of us, that is so contagious and that makes our city and our club so special. We want to express this feeling with the FC carnival jersey and proudly carry the motto of the 2024 session visibly into the world,” says FC Managing Director Markus Rejek.
The Festkomitee Kölner Karneval (Cologne Carnival Festival Committee) explained the motto for the session when it was announced in February: “Wat e Theater – wat e Jeckespill” stands for the sigh of disbelief of the Cologne carnival revellers, who look on with bewilderment at world events: the pandemic, wars and natural disasters. At the same time, the motto is meant to be a tribute to the many Cologne stages.
When will the jerseys be worn?
The carnival jersey is traditionally worn in a home game around 11/11. Thus, the men will wear the special jersey in the home game against FC Augsburg on Saturday afternoon, November 4; the women against TSG Hoffenheim on Monday evening, November 13.
The new FC carnival jersey is available for 89.95 euros (adults, FC members 80.96 euros) or 79.95 euros (children, FC members 71.96 euros).
