Shock diagnosis for MMA star

The German MMA fighter Michael Smolik actually wanted to fight his next match on 14 October. However, due to a sudden shock diagnosis, this fight has been cancelled.

For Michael Smolik (32) a completely new fight now begins. The MMA fighter will have to undergo surgery within the next few days after a brain tumour was discovered. There is hope for Smolik as it has not yet been clarified whether it is a benign or malignant tumour.

Smolik addresses his fans on YouTube

The German martial artist made the tragic illness public on his YouTube channel, where he usually publishes videos about martial arts. According to his own statements, he noticed the first symptoms two months ago. “I felt sick while jogging. After that, I kept getting sick during training sessions,” Smolik explained.

Contrary to his assumption, however, the symptoms got worse and worse. Fortunately, the martial artist then went in for a check-up, where doctors discovered the brain tumour.

“I have to do this fight “

It is also certain that Smolik will have to put his planned fights on hold for the time being. On 14 October, a fight between Smolik and martial arts influencer “Ringlife” was originally scheduled in the Rudolf Weber Arena (Oberhausen).

The story of this rivalry began back in the summer of 2021 and has been accompanied by regular fight announcements and challenges ever since. “Ringlife” will instead face professional boxer Rafael Bejaran following Smolik’s retirement.

The fact that the boxing match was cancelled was not immediately clear after the diagnosis. Especially as Smolik still wanted to compete in the fight for personal reasons. Only at the insistence of his trainer did the MMA fighter abandon this idea.

Career in TV and combat sports

Probably the greatest achievements in Smolik’s sporting career include world championship and European championship titles in kickboxing.

In addition to his martial arts career, Michael Smolik also became known through television. The former police officer was a part of the Sat.1 series “Die Ruhrpottwache” for several years.
