Dutchman Jeffrey Buis finishes the 2023 Supersport 300 World Championship season as World Champion – Dirk Geiger misses out on World Championship bronze by one point
Freudenberg-KTM rider Dirk Geiger has finished the 2023 Supersport 300 World Championship in fourth place overall. The 21-year-old from Mannheim celebrated a race win this year and led the championship in places. At the season finale in Portimao, Geiger slipped down to fourth position in the riders’ standings, despite finishing on the podium at the season finale.
“It’s such a shame to lose third place in the championship even though I made it to the podium,” commented Geigern after finishing third in Sunday’s race.
“I am very disappointed and on the other hand also happy to be on the podium. It has been a very tough season with many ups and downs. The team has worked great. We gave everything,” the German remarked.
Jeffrey Buis 300cc World Champion for the second time
Dutch rider Jeffrey Buis (Kawasaki) secured the title in the final race. An eleventh place was enough for Buis to secure his second World Championship title in the 300cc category. The 21-year-old already took the title in the 2020 season.

His Spanish World Championship rival Jose Luis Perez (Kawasaki) crossed the finish line first in the final race of the season, but received a post-race penalty for dangerous riding. But even with the win, Perez could not have prevented Buis from winning the title.
Yamaha rider Mirko Gennai inherited victory in the second Portimao race to finish the season in third place in the World Championship.
Lennox Lehmann missing from Portimao season finale
Lennox Lehmann (Freudenberg-KTM) missed the season finale. The young rider from Dresden broke his thigh during the last weekend in Aragon and had to undergo surgery in Spain.
It is not clear when Lehmann will be able to get back on a racing bike. In the past season, the KTM rider celebrated his first World Championship victory. In the championship, Lehmann finished in 16th position.
