Before CL appearance in Munich: Manchester United lose to Brighton

Manchester United lost 1:3 against Brighton & Hove Albion four days before their Champions League match in Munich, making their false start perfect. With only six points from five games, the Red Devils are now in 12th place.

The team of coach Erik ten Hag started promisingly and especially with Rashford, who was in good form, who put the Seagulls’ defence on alert again and again and was involved in almost every attack of the Red Devils. The game flattened out after just over ten minutes before Brighton produced a blistering attack in the 20th minute to take the lead thanks to Welbeck (20th).

Höjlund’s equaliser is pulled back – Great increases

United had to become more active as a result and did so: Rashford’s solo effort was almost rewarded, it was only the foot of Veltman that prevented the equaliser, directing the ball into the left cross corner (34.). And a few minutes later it was also dangerous, but Höjlund’s goal (41.) after a great assist by Rashford was revised after a review by the video assistant (43.).

After the restart, Manchester United continued to press for an equaliser, but instead it was the Seagulls who sent the sold-out Old Trafford into a state of shock. Groß, who had recently been named for the German national team for the first time, first faked his shot and then made it 2-0 (53rd).

Hannibal reply to Joao Pedro’s early decision

Other than after the opening goal, United did not recover and found no offensive solutions at all. So it was Brighton again, who showed an uncanny efficiency and made it 3-0 with the next opportunity in the person of Joao Pedro and provided the preliminary decision (72.). Only a minute later, substitute Hannibal reduced the score for Manchester United, but nothing more happened after that.

Thanks to an efficient performance, Brighton & Hove Albion won 3-1 at Old Trafford and sealed a false start for Manchester United, who host FC Bayern Munich in their Champions League opener on Wednesday night (9pm). The Seagulls face AEK Athens in the Europa League a day later (9pm).
