NBA 2K24: Focus on Basketball in MyCAREER – Sun, Beach and Baskets in The City

The focus in MyCAREER returns to basketball. In addition, players of the next-gen version can explore a new city

The fact that life as a professional basketball player is not always about performance on the court was shown by MyCAREER in NBA 2K23. The only catch: The career as an NBA player took too much of a back seat, tedious side quests and Pay to Win marred the image of an otherwise beautiful game mode.

It is still unclear what the pay-to-win situation is in NBA 2K24’s MyCAREER. On the other hand, it was announced that basketball will once again be in the foreground. The journey begins in America’s professional league as the junior player “of the last 20 years”. The goal: to chase as many successes as possible on the court and to climb “from the GOT-NEXT level to the GOAT level”.

Unlike before, this no longer requires playing every game. The “Key Match” feature is designed to allow the “most important matches to be played, based on match history, opposing teams and milestones”.

Sun and beach or futuristic neon look?

An integral part of the player’s career remains The City, an open world. Those playing the next-gen version of the basketball simulation should already have packed their moving boxes. Because city life will be swapped for sun and beach with new buildings, places and “affiliations”. There would be 3v3 football courts on the beach, and the street on the beach would also house “the buildings Pro-AM, The REC, Ante-Up, Theatre, Club 2K and the brand new Starting 5”. The latter will make their debut in NBA 2K24. As the developer explains, this is a 1v1 online mode in which you compete against others with a team consisting of your MyPLAYER and four other NBA players.

Away from the big arenas such as Madison Square Garden, your ball skills will also be put to the test in the streetball side missions. There will be a total of three courts throughout the city, where “bosses and teams with skills” will have to be defeated. Streetball features “its own progression system with the ability to earn game-changing takeover perks that can set your MyPLAYER apart from the other players in The City”. As in NBA 2K23, players would be faced with choosing a faction. However, these have been reduced to two: RISE and ELITE. While the RISE part of the city is based on Atlantis, ELITE shines in a futuristic look.

It was also announced a few weeks ago that REP would be returning. Each season you can earn experience points and climb up a global ranking. Those who make it into the top 10 will receive “a special logo and rewards”. On September 8, NBA 2K24 will be released for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X S and the Nintendo Switch.
