As is so often the case, FIFA President Gianni Infantino praised himself in the run-up to the final and spoke of the “biggest and best” Women’s World Cup ever.
And indeed, women’s football was at its best in New Zealand and Australia. Both in sporting terms and in terms of spectator interest on site and on TV screens around the world. Only a few nations failed to live up to expectations, including the German team, which bowed out in the group stage.
