Coach: Nadal set to return to court in Paris

Spanish tennis star Rafael Nadal is set to return to competitive action soon after the birth of his first child, according to his coach Carlos Moyá.

The 36-year-old will compete in the ATP Masters 1000 tournament in Paris as early as next week, Spanish radio station IB3 reported in Mallorca. “Rafa is competitive wherever he is and we are approaching the new challenges full of hope and enthusiasm,” Moyá told the station. According to the report, Nadal is also planning to take part in the ATP season finale in Turin in mid-November.

Nadal was eliminated from the US Open in September in the round of 16 against the US professional Frances Tiafoe. He had already suffered an abdominal muscle injury at Wimbledon in July, which forced him to withdraw before the semi-finals. He has also been plagued by foot problems for a long time. On the international stage, Nadal last competed at the Laver Cup in London in September, when he bid farewell to his long-time Swiss rival Roger Federer. He then became the father of a son.
