After Queen’s death: Premier League cancels matchday 7

England’s professional leagues have reacted to the death of Queen Elizabeth II by postponing Matchday 7.

In66 she had presented England’s World Cup captain Bobby Moore with the Jules Rimet trophy, otherwise Queen Elizabeth II, who is said to have supported Arsenal FC, had only limited involvement with football.

Never mind that, in a meeting on Friday morning, the Premier League decided to postpone Matchday 7 because of the monarch’s death at the age of 96 – to honour her “extraordinary life”.

“It’s a very sad time for the whole nation,” Premier League boss Richard Masters is quoted as saying in the announcement, which has not yet named any replacement dates.

The ball also rests at the weekend in the second, third and fourth English leagues.
