In what is believed to be their last Sister Act, Serena and Venus Williams have missed out on the second round of the US Open doubles competition. The 14-time Grand Slam tournament winners from the USA lost 6-7 (5-7), 4-6 to Czech Republic’s Lucie Hradecka/Linda Noskova on Friday night. The Williams sisters were on court together for the first time since the 2018 French Open thanks to a wild card.
Serena Williams, who announced her retirement three weeks ago, can thus concentrate completely on the singles competition in what will most likely be her last Grand Slam tournament. The 40-year-old will meet the Australian Ajla Tomljanović in the third round on Friday. Venus Williams, on the other hand, was defeated in the opening round by Alison Van Uytvanck from Belgium.
