Norwegian tennis pro Casper Ruud has successfully defended his title at the ATP tournament in Gstaad.
The 23-year-old French Open finalist beat Italy’s Matteo Berrettini 4-6, 7-6 (7-4), 6-2 in the final of the clay court event.
Berrettini thus missed out on his third tournament win in a row after successes on grass in Queens and Stuttgart. The 26-year-old had to withdraw from the Grand Slam tournament in Wimbledon due to an infection with the corona virus.
Berrettini defeated Dominic Thiem in the semi-finals. The former US Open winner from Austria thus confirmed his slow upward trend after returning from a lengthy injury at the end of March.
